Scientific publication Veronica Peña – November 2024

The most recent advances in the implication of the Pyk2 gene (PTK2B) in obesity in children and adolescents, product of research carried out by IDIS, CiberOBN, CHUS and our colleague Veronica Peña from B5tec, have been published by the iScience: Cell Press in its last edition. This work is titled “The PTK2B gene is associated with obesity, adiposity, and leptin levels in children and adolescents”. It presents that the role of Pyk2 in obesity is poorly understood. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving children and adolescents with obesity, analysing the positive correlation between PTK2B levels and weight, BMI, BMI Z-score, fat mass, waist circumference, waist-to-height ratio, diastolic blood pressure, and leptin. This work provides important insights into the role of Pyk2 in obesity, indicating that it may be a predictor of the development of obesity. Congratulations to our colleague!
